We love finding new music, it’s up there with finding an amazing outfit in the sale and discovering something new on the menu of our favourite restaurant so we’re always happy to find new tunes to (internally) jam to on our commute and when we’re getting ready for a night out. However, in todays over saturated music scene it’s overwhelming having so many new artists constantly bombarding us with mixtapes, EP’s and debut singles so we here at Looker have taken the time to compile the following list of new artists we have a feeling are about to make it big and are definitely worth the space in your music catalogue!

Oh, and they’re all female because we represent the girl power like that….

Alma

Described by The Guardian as ‘a cybergoth reimagining of a young Adele and with a sound like Beth Ditto’, Finnish singer Alma is hard to miss thanks to her amazing talent and her penchant for Day-Glo hair and eyebrows. Rising to fame on Finland’s answer to The X factor, Idol, Alma has since released a mixtape and an EP and has been furthering her career gigging around Europe. We love single Good Vibes for its catchy pop hook and feel good lyrics. Definitely one to look out for this summer!

Ella Mai

With fans like Rihanna giving her a shout out on Instagram it’s probably safe to say that Ella Mai is well on the way to international stardom. The London-born singer songwriter cites the likes of Lauryn Hill, Brandy and Alicia Keys amongst her biggest influences and its certainly shows in her own music. Recent single Boo’d Up is a soulful, smooth track that peaked at number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and set Ella Mai up as the next big RnB star of 2018…

Rothwell

Eagle-eared listeners may recognise Rothwell’s recent single Velvet Heart as the song that was played on Love Island during the montage when Laura and Wes split up (moment of silence for what was…) but the Bristol-born songstress is making waves on the festival circuit this summer and says that when she’s not performing she’s fully immersing herself in the festival scene “I just try to have as much fun as possible but will ALWAYS be prepared with a raincoat”. We love a girl who’s prepared!

Ms Banks

Coming from a musical background, her uncle being in grime group Essentials, it was always going to be clear that South London native, Ms Banks was going to make it big in the industry and she’s certainly well on her way. Honing her rap skills at open mic nights Banks has already toured with Cardi B and has had a shout out from Nicki Minaj on Twitter, it doesn’t get much better than that surely?! Plus, she’s all about empowering women too with many of her lyrics having a feminist message and stating in interviews that she hope other women look to her in how to break the mold themselves. You go, girl!

Rina Sawayama

Beginning her career in 2013 Rina Sawayama is a Japanese-British artist whos music has been met with critical acclaim. Described as “nostalgic greatness’ its clear from singles such as Valentine and Alterlife it’s clear to see that Japanese pop culture has played a major part in Sawayama’s career and the singer says that she often uses the anxiety she feels on social media is fuel for her songwriting… well that’s certainly one way to turn any negatives into a positive, we salute you Rina!
