There’s a lot of positives about going shopping (though our bank balance would disagree…) but something that makes it extra special? Knowing the brand you’ve just purchased from will be doing some good with your money. Whether that’s donating to a charity, continuing to build a sustainable brand or helping out those less fortunate – here are some of the brands to have on your fashion radar.
The Reformation is definitely a brand that’ll have cropped up on your feeds at some point thanks to loyal fans like Karlie Kloss, Taylor Swift and Emily Ratajkowski. Sustainability is at the core of everything they do, proving that your style doesn’t need to suffer if you invest in more eco-friendly garms. They had a London pop-up in 2016 but it’s recently returned to British soil via Browns, with a 27 piece capsule collection currently available instore and on their website.
Move over Stan Smiths, there’s a new shoe that’s got the fashion world’s seal of approval! Unlike the majority of their footwear competitors, Veja (Portuguese for ‘look’) make a conscious effort to use as many sustainable materials as possible with a better, more transparent supply chain. Join the likes of uber-blogger Lucy Williams and Emma Watson by investing in a pair.
Fun fact: nearly 30% of H&M’s products are made from recycled and sustainable materials, with the figure rising to 50% for its Conscious Collection. The range offers everything from winter outerwear right down to underwear, and the good news is it’s all still at H&M’s affordable price point – ideal if you’re on a budget but still want to do good for the environment!
Toms have become a staple of our summer footwear so it’s always good to know that the brand is founded on giving back to those less fortunate. The company’s ‘One for One’ initiative means that for every pair of shoes purchased, the company donate a pair to children living in the third world. In recent years, the company has also extended its charitable work to providing clean water, eye sight tests and safer birth options to those most in need in the developing world. ASOS first launched their ‘Made in Kenya’ range back in ’09 in partnership with SOKO – a Kenyan based social enterprise that creates their pieces each season. The manufacturer employs over 45 people in the Kasigau region of Kenya’s Wildlife Works Rukinga Sanctuary. ASOS and SOKO also joined forces to launch their Kenyan Stitching Academy to equip locals with skills via a two-month tailoring course – helping to widen their job prospects.
Most famous for their bags, accessories and Selena Gomez fronted campaigns, Coach recently partnered with the Step Up Foundation. They donated $3 million in order to set up a programme that ensures under privileged girls in the US can enrol in a mentoring programme, providing them with strong, female role models who can coach them into making decisions to better their lives. Whilst our wages can’t quite stretch to a new Coach bag on a regular basis, we are 100% here for any program that promotes girl power!
The clue is in the name with this one, Ninety Percent donate 90% of their proceeds to charity. The brand, which was founded in 2018 and has gained a reputation for its ‘casual chic’ aesthetic, focuses its efforts on providing better working conditions in Bangladesh and Turkey. We love an under-the-radar brand that’s changing the fashion supply chain!
