Situated on Spain’s southern coast, Marbella has become the Costa del Sol’s most luxurious holiday hotspot in recent years thanks to guilty pleasure shows like The Only Way Is Essex. The city boasts over 27km of golden beaches as well as several beach clubs, museums and a variety of restaurants serving food from all over the world. A favourite with celebs ranging from A-List (George and Amal Clooney own a villa there) to TV faves like the infamous TOWIE gang, Marbella has a huge tourist influx every summer, all seeking a week in the sun and to rub shoulders with celebs. If this sounds like your kind of getaway we’ve compiled a list of all the essentials, you’ll need to know for a trip to Marbs.
Language: Spanish, but most people are also fluent in English given the large tourist population.
Most popular tourist attractions: Nearby Puerto Banus is built on a harbour so is perfect for Instagram shots featuring the docked million-pound yachts, while Ocean Beach Club is the place to be for drinks and a day lounging by the pool. If soaking up the local culture is more your thing though, Marbella Old Town has several museums to explore and the cafes there are famous for their churros (trust us, they live up the hype) and extra strong coffee.
Something to bear in mind: Given its reputation as a millionaire’s paradise, both Marbella and Puerto Banus tend to be quite expensive. However, there are lots of chain restaurants present in both cities which can help keep the price down when eating out. Also, Malaga airport (where you’ll be flying into) is about 45 minutes away from Marbella so make sure to organise a transfer beforehand rather than paying for taxis.
