The eyes of the world were on LA’s Dolby Theatre this Sunday where Hollywood’s elite were attending the pinnacle of all award shows: The Oscars. With the world’s best actresses, stylists and make-up artists all in one place, it’s the event to showcase the latest trends in both fashion and beauty.

Oscars White Trend

(L-R: Jane Fonda in Custom Balmain, Laura Dern in Calvin Klein and Margot Robbie in Chanel Haute Couture)

These A-lister’s showed how to nail a white dress without looking bridal – the secret? All have a quirky neckline. Whether you want to go structured like Jane, effortless a lá Laura with casually draped detailing or go for a classic feel like Margot with delicate embellishment; all add a subtle edge to an ‘angelic’ hue.

Oscars Bow Trend

(L-R: Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein, Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé and Emma Stone in Custom Louis Vuitton)

The Oscars used to be the event where most attendees embraced classic silhouettes and played it safe with colour (unless of course you’re Cher or Bjork) but this years stars added an update to their red carpet style via bow detailing. Emma’s colour-clashing belt was a subtle nod to the trend whereas Nicole and Saoirse’s OTT bow is better suited for the fashion maximalist.

Oscars Shimmer Trend

(L-R: Gal Gadot in Givenchy Haute Couture, Lupita Nyong’o in Versace and Jennifer Lawrence in Dior)

If you can’t wear head-to-toe glitter or metallics to the Oscars then where can you? Jennifer and Lupita perfectly matched the award statuette, with the latter bringing some Black Panther vibes to the red carpet in a warrior princess-esque showstopper. On the other end of the shimmer spectrum, Gal rocked a flapper inspired gown with ombre fringing.

(L-R: Jennifer Garner in Atelier Versace, Eiza Gonzalez in Ralph Lauren and Viola Davis in Michael Kors Collection)

The recent A/W18 runways have been chock-full of colour poppin’ looks so these stars ensured they kept their classic gowns up-to-date by opting for a vibrant hue. Primary colours livened up Jennifer’s grecian inspired dress and Eiza’s bodycon whereas Viola embraced her girlie side in a pepto-bismal pink gown.

Oscars High Neck Trend

(L-R: Zendaya in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, Emily Blunt in Schiaparelli Haute Couture and Taraji P.Henson in Custom Vera Wang)

Rather than opting for a plunging neckline, A-lister’s including Zendaya, Emily and Taraji came across all modest in showstoppers with a high-neck; proving that just a hint of skin can look equally as sexy as an exposed décolletage, leg split and cut-out detailing.

Oscars Red Trend

(L-R: Leslie Mann in Zac Posen, Meryl Streep in Dior and Allison Janney in Reem Acra)

All three stars looked red hot and more than held their own amongst attendees half their age! Red is a popular colour at award shows but the v-necks, draped detailing and floral embroidery added a much needed update to the popular hue.
